MATINEE PARTY BEATS NONALIGNED

The Museum of Yugoslavia invites you to the Matinée Party Beats Nonaligned in the museum’s Sculpture Park on Friday, June 7, from 5 to 9 p.m.

This special musical journey will be an opportunity for you to enjoy the rhythms of the Serbian-Tunisian DJ duo Beats Nonaligned from Basel. Alica (Afro Lotus) and Srđan (Space Yugo / Uhuru Sound Resistance) shape their performances and musical style in line with the politics of the Non-Aligned Movement and various forms of resistance to imperialism, (neo)colonialism and racism, as well as the cultural hegemony of the “first world” or “global West”. As the anti-colonial struggle, the Non-Aligned Movement and the bloc division of the world are important topics for the Museum of Yugoslavia, we are organising this matinee party to be reminded of the musical legacy that followed the struggles against the colonizers, but also to have a good time. Admission is free!

For seven years, the team of the Museum of Yugoslavia, consisting of Dušan Jevtić and Sara Sopić, has been successfully implementing the SUMMER IN THE MUSEUM program. The idea is to promote the museum, through various events, as a place for socializing and entertainment, but also to examine how the Yugoslav heritage is interpreted through cooperation with relevant artists from the region. Since the program was launched, we have organised dozens of concerts by bands and performances by other artists who have left a deep mark on the Yugoslav scene, as well as by young bands who are still trying to make history. Such support is an important aspect of Yugoslav youth culture that the Museum strives to keep as a legacy.
