SUMMER AT THE MUSEUM: LENHART TAPES & SKREČ MAJSTOR LJUBAN

Join us on Friday, August 28, for another musical matinee during the SUMMER AT THE MUSEUM. Get ready for an evening of finely and roughly chopped-up music with Lenhart Tapes and Skreč majstor Ljuban!

The musical blender of this extraordinary duo from Belgrade’s underground scene mixes samples and loops from ethno-noise, folk, disco, jazz, hip-hop, ex-Yu rock and dance rhythms. By sampling music from a wide range of genres, Ljuban from vinyls and Lenhart from cassettes, the two maestros will improvise live in our Sculpture Park!

The performance will include immersive VJ visuals, while their unrepeatable sound will be joined by Zoja Borovčanin, the vocalist of Lira Vega.

Zoja and Lenhart worked together on their cult track “Džamahirija”, an alternative, musical reading of the Green Book by former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. As a tribute to the revolutionary legacy of the Non-Aligned Movement, the song was also inspired by the eponymous album by The Green Wings, a band founded by Libyan students in Yugoslavia.

During the event, visitors will also be able to explore the Museum of Yugoslavia’s current exhibitions.

Who’s performing?

Ljuban Supurović, known as Skreč majstor Ljuban in Belgrade’s underground music scene, has been DJing and scratching since the early 2000s. His repertoire is dominated by hip-hop sounds and big beat rhythms, combined with samples of children’s music, ex-Yu rock and folk. He performs with numerous musicians at his improvised jam sessions.

Vladimir Lenhart, also known as the man with four walkmans behind the Lenhart Tapes alter ego, samples cassettes from his eclectic personal collection, spanning a wide range of musical genres. In 2021, he released his debut album Duets, followed by the 2023 ethno-noise album Dens. He frequently performs with different musicians, including vocalists like Tijana Stanković, Mirjana Raić, Svetlana Spajić and Zoja Borovčanin, as well as an expanded ensemble known as the Lenhart Tapes Orchestra.

For the past nine years, the team behind the Museum of Yugoslavia’s programme SUMMER IN THE MUSEUM – Dušan Jevtić and Sara Sopić – have successfully developed the initiative to affirm the Museum as a place for gathering and entertainment, through a wide range of cultural events. In this sense, the programme allowed for exploring new ways of interpreting Yugoslav heritage in collaboration with relevant artists from across the region. 

Since the launch of the programme, dozens of concerts and performances have been held, featuring artists who significantly shaped the Yugoslav cultural scene, alongside younger bands that are now leaving their own mark. This kind of support is an important aspect of Yugoslav youth culture, which the Museum seeks to preserve and carry forward.
