Opening of the exhibition “Sport in Art. The Art of Sport”
The Museum of Yugoslavia, the Gallery of Matica Srpska, and the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Republic of Srpska present the exhibition “Sport in Art. The Art of Sport”, which will open on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 6 p.m., in the lobby of the Museum 25th of May building.
The exhibition was first presented at the Cultural Center of Serbia in Paris, on the eve of the opening of the 2024 Olympic Games, and then toured Banja Luka, Trebinje, and Novi Sad. The Belgrade edition brings new exhibits from the collections of the Museum of Yugoslavia and the Red Star Football Club Museum, further highlighting the historical moments and symbols of sport in our culture.
Through more than 40 artworks and numerous museum objects created between 1858 and 2018, visitors will have the opportunity to explore how sport and art have shaped cultural identity together for over a century and a half. The exhibition includes works by leading Serbian artists as well as pieces by internationally renowned authors, accompanied by sports equipment, medals, and photographs that testify to the rich sports history and the participation of Yugoslav and Serbian athletes in the Olympic Games.
The exhibition will be on view from September 23 to November 23, 2025, at the Museum of Yugoslavia.
