Summer in the Museum: Obojeni program
The Museum of Yugoslavia invites you to join us at the opening of the 7th SUMMER IN THE MUSEUM, on May 25, 2024. Obojeni program band will bring about a unique rock and roll spectacle. The concert starts at 7 pm near the Fountain on the Museum Plateau. Admission is free!
Obojeni Program has existed for four decades and since its inception it has been a band of authentic musical expression. In addition to being one of the most prominent regional bands, they made their mark in Yugoslav history when they were featured on the legendary John Peel’s show on BBC radio, but also as a band whose video for the song “981” was shown on MTV in the 120 minutes show. We believe that the mentioned reasons qualify their performance to be an important part of the collection of the Museum of Yugoslavia.
Since 1980 up to now, at least fifty musicians took part in the band, and frontman Branislav Babić Kebra is the only original member of the band. In addition to him, today’s Obojeni program gather Ilija Vlaisavljević Bebec – bass guitar and Vladimir Cinkocki Cina – drums. Miodrag Ristić Miki – bass joined them only recently. The keystone of the band’s sound was the New Wave – a fusion of punk, rock and funk; a type of music that conquered Britain and America in the late 1970s and early 1980s. It certainly was one of the most productive periods in the history of Yugoslav music, with different genres intertwining in accordance with the tendencies of Western music production at the time. Nevertheless, Obojeni program has managed to remain a relevant and influential band until these days. That is why we are sure that you will join us in celebrating the Youth Day because any definition is a loss of freedom, and you believe this performance to be free and unreal and offering magical feelings, and above all because we all still hope for something good![1]
For seven years, the team of the Museum of Yugoslavia, consisting of Dušan Jevtić and Sara Sopić, has been successfully organizing the SUMMER IN THE MUSEUM program and affirming it through various events as a place for socializing and entertainment, but also to test the possibilities of interpreting the Yugoslav heritage through cooperation with relevant artists from the region. Since the launch of the program, there have been dozens of concerts by bands and performances by other artists who have left a deep mark on the Yugoslav scene, as well as young bands that are yet trying to make history. This support is an important aspect of Yugoslav youth culture that the Museum strives to keep as a legacy.
