Exhibition “Comics Made in Italy – Generations”
20.03-30.06.2026
An important thematic exhibition entitled “Comics Made in Italy – Generations”, organized by Lucca Crea, Fumo di China magazine and the Italian Cultural Institute in Belgrade, supported by the Italian Embassy in Belgrade, will be opened on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at the Museum of Yugoslavia. The authors of the exhibition are Gianni Bono and Giovanni Russo.
Dedicated to Italian comics, the exhibition uses a layered approach to present and analyzes the development and influence of the comics and contributions of key protagonists in all phases, from its inception to the present day. Particularly popular and appreciated in Serbia and the Balkans, Italian production of the ninth art has been viewed through the narratives of great past, present and future authors. At the exhibition, visitors will be able to follow the history of the main works and magazines that shaped the evolution of Italian comics, and additional content and meetings will familiarize the audience with the contemporary publishers who will present Italian works to Serbian readers.
The exhibition includes several thematic sections: Authors; History; Banners; Casa Comics; Serbian publishers. The first section opens with a presentation of Yugoslav and Serbian comics authors whose work is particularly recognized in Italy (Sergej Solovjev, Branislav Kerac and Aleksandar Zograf); followed by presentations by three young Italian authors who are among the most important contemporary comics artists (Giuseppe Palumbo, Sergio Algozzino and Grazia la Padula).
The second exhibition section is dedicated to the history of Italian comics, discovering their formats and authors, as well as the stories that have been passionately followed by generations of readers.
The third section explores the present day, but also famous heroes and unforgettable stories reimagined from a modern perspective. Visitors will be able to see, on large banners, how contemporary authors’ adaptations pay homage to the classics, allowing new readers to get to know their timeless adventures.
3Casa Comics analyzes critique magazines and the contribution of intellectuals to the transformation of comics, while the last section allows for closer examination and interaction with representatives of Politikin Zabavnik and publishing houses Grafart, Golconda, Phoenix Press, Forma B, Čarobna knjiga and Darkwood.
Additional content and interesting facts will be available to visitors via QR codes placed in the exhibition space. Additionally, meetings with authors and publishers, screenings and workshops with comic strip schools will be organized. The event “Comics Made in Italy – Generations” is the starting point of a wider project dedicated to the history and popularization of comics, stemming from the love for the medium that, from its beginnings to the present day, has been a meeting point and connection between different cultures.
The exhibition may be visited from March 20 until June 30, 2026, every day except Mondays, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
