Guest exhibition TANJUG Reports: The War is Over in Užice
24.04-30.05.2024
The Museum of Yugoslavia’s exhibition “TANJUG Reports: The war is Over” will be presented to the audience in the Užice National Museum on April 24 at 1.00 p.m. as part of the program “Užice – Capital of Culture of Serbia”.
The exhibition TANJUG Reports: The war is Over was presented for the first time in 2020 at the Museum of Yugoslavia, in Belgrade, within the program marking 75th anniversary of the end of the World War II. With over 9,000 visitors, the exhibition attracted a lot of public attention with its narrative-educational programs, thematic guided tours, as well as personal narratives recorded in audio and video formats.
The focus of the exhibition is the photo collection of the New News Agency of Yugoslavia, created to use news and images in the fight for the liberation of the people and the state and the social revolution. The exhibition presents part of the extensive material found in the Museum of Yugoslavia, about 25,000 photographs taken by TANJUG photojournalists from 1944 to 1947.
In the Užice National Museum, visitors will have the opportunity to see around 1,700 selected documentary photographs of great historical value.
The lens of TANJUG photo-reporters (Peter Obradović, Branko Savić and Isak Koen) documented the most important socio-political events that took place in this period, mainly in Belgrade: parliamentary sessions, visits of high-ranking foreign delegations, party conferences, conferences of mass political organizations, political rallies, meetings and parades on the occasion of national holidays. Numerous photo-reportages recorded activities such as work on the reconstruction of roads, clearing of ruins, work of hospitals and children’s homes, life in villages, as well as many cultural events, the revival of sport and athletic life, and reports from the first football and basketball games in liberated Belgrade, motorcycle races and gymnastics “slets”.
Besides the authors, Radovan Cukić and Milica Tomić, the collaborator on photo processing, Jovana Stojadinović, contributed to the realization of the exhibition. The architect of the installation was Milica Lopičić, while Mane Radmanović was in charge of the design.
The exhibition TANJUG Reports: The War is Over will be open in the Užice National Museum until May 30, 2024.
